The strings were processed a bit to make them shine. Side-chain compression was gently applied to the synth pads with the low frequency kick drum as the key. This track felt like a pop / electronic hybrid to me so the application seems appropriate. Each channel was routed to a sub-mix divided by each of the main categories within cubase. A combination of reverence reverb and soundtoys 5 echoboy were added as FX channels when the energy of the song made room for subtle sends. The bridge really lent itself to some creative FX application; once the pieces were lined up, the song really came together.
