All We Had

The challenge with this mix was the amount of activity in the upper mid and high frequency ranges. The vocal dubs were nice individually but the varying pitch and energy in the synths called for a little sculpting. I feel it was a good decision to add a ducking compressor on the bright synth using the vocals as the key. This gave the vocals more focus when focus was needed. I also went heavy on side-chain compression of the bass. This gave a little space for the bass to breath and also drove the song's beat. A balance was achieved between the verse and chorus to hopefully avoid the effect being too on the nose.
